Research Scientist – Computational Biology (Job ID: 20070607-1)
Successful applicants will apply established and novel computational modeling techniques to accelerate the design and development of microorganisms for the production of targeted chemicals and biofuels. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, or similar field, with extensive understanding of microbial physiology and metabolism, and demonstrated experience with computational modeling of biological systems. This position will be integrated as part of an interactive team that is responsible for developing innovative metabolic designs that can be implemented experimentally to provide optimum strain performance. Knowledge of the constraint-based modeling framework and practical microbiology laboratory experience are considered to be highly advantageous for this important role.
Senior Fermentation Engineer(Job ID: 200804-130-030)
This key senior-level position will provide leadership in the development of production platforms for renewable chemical and biofuel production. As part of a multi-disciplinary team, the successful applicant will be responsible for developing, characterizing, and optimizing fermentation processes. You will use metabolic flux modeling and other tools to understand process behavior and characterize cell metabolism, and translate this information to improved fermentation processes. This position will also involve process optimization through design of experiments. Candidates with an M.S. or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, or Bioengineering, a demonstrated proficiency in microbial fermentation, and a comprehensive understanding of metabolism are encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate will have 5-10 years experience in an industrial environment, including design and operation of anaerobic fermenters. Excellent problem-solving skills and program leadership and management ability are essential. Sr Scientist, Enzymology and Protein Engineering (Job code: 200804-130-04)
This key hands-on hire will lead our efforts in enzymology and protein engineering and contribute to developing successful strategies for metabolic engineering of novel microorganisms for the cost-advantaged production of industrial chemicals and fuels. This challenging position will require a motivated and organized individual with a Ph.D. or similar degree in Biochemistry, Enzymology, Biological Chemistry or Microbiology and at least 7 years post-graduate and industrial experience in enzymology and/or protein engineering research. This individual will be responsible for leading the design and implementation of a broad range of activities encompassing biochemistry, enzymology and enzyme assay development, bioinformatics, gene/orf identification, sequence/activity correlations, analysis of 3-D protein structures and binding/active sites, directed enzyme evolution, and high-throughput assay development. In addition, this individual will work within a team environment to help establish metabolic engineering strategies for the creation of high-performance organisms. Close interactions with the molecular biology, microbiology, fermentation, analytical, and computational groups will be required. The interdisciplinary nature of the work will demand excellent communication and teamwork skills. This individual will be results-oriented and have a track record of scientific excellence, setting ambitious goals, and exceeding expectations. The individual will demonstrate promise to be an effective manager and project leader, and to attract and lead highly talented scientists in a multi-disciplinary environment.
