Jeff Lievense, Ph.D.  | Senior Advisor to the CEO, Bioengineering & Technology

Jeff has served as our Senior Advisor to the CEO, Bioengineering & Technology, since April2017. He acts as a domain expert, internal consultant, key contributor on new initiatives, and an external champion. Previously, he was Senior Engineering Fellow at Genomatica since March 2015; and Executive Vice President, Process Technology, since joining in May 2012.

From December 2007 to April 2012, Jeff served at Amyris, most recently as Executive Vice President, Process Development. From 1994 to November 2007, Jeff was Vice President, Technology and Process Development and held other technology management positions in the Research and Development organization of Tate & Lyle Plc, a global food and agricultural ingredients company. Prior to that, Jeff was Vice President, Research and Operations and President, Bio-Business Incubator of Michigan for Michigan Biotechnology Institute from 1993 to 1994; Director of Chemical Programs and Pathway Engineering for Genencor International from 1990 to 1993; and held various process engineering, research scientist and product management positions at Eastman Kodak Company from 1982 to 1989.

Jeff earned a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from Purdue University and a B.S. in chemical engineering from the University of Michigan. He currently serves as an advisor to the Technical University of Delft Process Technology Institute (DPTI), and is a contributing instructor to UCSD’s Microbial Fermentation Workshop.
